Church Doctrine
- We believe that God rules and reigns in the midst of all circumstances; accomplishing all his holy will ( Ps. 24:1-2; Ps. 103:19; Isa. 45:5-7; Rom. 8:28).
- We believe that there is only one God and we are creatures created by him. Thus, we live in subjection to God and his Law (Exod. 20:1-17; Ps. 24:1-10, 97:1-12; Isa. 45:5-7, 55:1-11; 1 Tim. 1:17).
- We believe that there is one and only one living and true God (Isa. 45:5). He is the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the Universe. He is eternal and reveals Himself to us as God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (1 John 5:7). Each of these three distinct personalities exists without division of nature, essence, or being. God is sovereign (Eph. 1:11), all-powerful (Jer. 13:17), all-knowing (Heb. 4:13), and present in all places at the same time (Ps 139:7-12).
- We believe in the necessity of the New Birth as an essential work of God in the Christian life (Deut. 10:12-16; Jn. 3:3-7; Tit. 3:5-7). By grace, each believer becomes a new creation (2 Cor. 5:16-17) by the Spirit’s work of regeneration. Regeneration always precedes faith; since it is impossible for the sinner to believe and trust in Jesus Christ apart from the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit (Jn. 3:5-8; Tit. 3:4-7).
- We believe that the Grace of God is necessary for salvation (Eph. 2:4-10). God’s grace toward the believer is ordinarily made manifest through the preaching of his Word, the administration of the Sacraments, and Prayer. We believe that Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ (Eph. 2:8-9)(John 3:16).
- We believe that Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation (John 14:6)(Acts 4:12).
- We believe that every individual must be born again by receiving Jesus Christ as Savior to be saved (John 1:12)(John 3:3,7).
- We believe that all people since Adam have been born with a sinful nature (Eph. 2:3) We believe that man’s spiritual condition is completely fallen as a result of the transgression of Adam (Total Depravity and Total Inability).
- Jesus Christ is the only name by which we may be saved (Christ Alone). The gospel is exclusive, and only faith in Jesus Christ saves the sinner (Jn. 14:6; Acts 4:12; 1 Pet. 2:24-25, 3:18).
- We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, God’s special revelation to humanity that is completely truthful in all it teaches, The Scriptures are the ultimate authority for the Christian.
- The Bible is the source of God’s revelation (Scripture Alone); it contains the Law, the Gospel, and many principles for how we should live, worship, and think ( Ps. 119:105; Isa. 40:8; 2 Tim. 3:16-17; Heb. 4:12-13).
- The Bible is the standard we use to evaluate what is true and false and right and wrong. It is our source of wisdom, instructing us on how to live life well to the glory of God.
- The Holy Spirit indwells all Christians at the time of regeneration and leads them to a life of holiness and sanctification throughout this earthly life (Rom. 8:9-17; 1 Cor. 3:16-17, 6:19-20; 1 Jn. 4:4).
- For the Christian, all of life is to be lived Coram Deo (i.e. “in the presence of God”). The Christian life leads to regular acts of repentance and to our sanctification and growth in holiness (1 Cor. 10:31; Col. 3:12-17).
- The final state of all human beings will be either in Heaven or Hell (Matt. 25:46; Rom. 14:10-11; 2 Cor. 5:10).
- The Church is a called-out assembly of believers (Acts 1:13-14; 2:41; 19:9)(Rom. 16:3-5)(Acts 9:31)(Gal. 1:2).
- Every believer is a priest with personal access to God (Rev. 1:6)(Heb. 4:16).
- Every believer is personally accountable to God with personal liberty (Romans 14:12)(Gal. 5:1,13).
- Those outside the local Church ought to be free to believe and follow God as their conscience would lead them without fear of harm to person or property by the government or the local Church.
- The Church has the right/duty to control its own business and membership (Acts 18:27)(1 Cor. 5:1-5, 13)(2 Cor. 2:6-8).
- The primary mission of the Church is three-fold (Matt. 28:18-20).
- To teach and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ so individuals can believe and be saved.
- To baptize those who have received Jesus Christ as Savior.
- To teach those believers what Jesus taught.
- Believers are supposed to regularly assemble with (Heb. 10:25) and love (Eph. 5:25) the Church.
- The local Church is to administer and teach both Biblical ordinances to its membership.
- Members of the Church should do their part as citizens to promote justice, freedom, the value of life, and righteousness in government whenever possible.
- The pastor under God and the Scriptures are the authority in each local Church (Heb. 13:17)(Rev. 2:1,8,12).
- Deacons are servants of God, the Church, and the pastor, who through faithfulness and wise use of their office are given special respect and boldness in the faith (1 Timothy 3:13).
- The gifts of the Spirit are gifts of grace granted by the Holy Spirit that are designed for the edification of the church, which can be divided up as gifts of speaking and gifts of serving.
- The gifts are to be exercised under the lordship of Christ (1 Cor. 12:1–3). Attention should not be centered on our gifts or our experiences but on the supremacy of Christ in all things.
- The gifts are given for the edification of the church (1 Cor. 14:1–40; Eph. 4:11–16).
- We recognize that the diversity of gifts comes from God himself (1 Cor. 12:4–6).
- The Sacrament of Baptism is for believing people who understand and are responsible for their choices (Gen. 17:1-14; Acts 2:37-39; Acts 16:25-34; Col. 2:11-12)(Acts 2:41; 8:12; 10:47-48; 18:8)
- Baptism does NOT impart grace or salvation to the participant (Eph. 2:8-9)(Titus 3:5).
- Bible baptism is by immersion after a personal confession of faith in Jesus Christ (Acts 8:35-38).
- Bible baptism serves three purposes in addition to a public profession of the participant’s faith in Jesus Christ.
- Baptism is an act of obedience to the commandment of Christ (Matt. 28:20)(Acts 10:48).
- Baptism identifies the participant with the doctrine and ministry of who baptized them even as Christ identified Himself with John the Baptist, John’s message, and John’s ministry in His baptism (Matt. 3:13-17).
- The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper is given by God for the spiritual nurture of His people, and it is to be received by faith (1 Cor. 11:23-32). It is a spiritual communion that represents the union that all true believers share with Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 10:16). The Lord’s Supper highlights how Jesus Christ is the true Passover lamb (1 Cor. 5:7).
- Lord’s Supper does NOT impart grace or salvation to the participant (Eph. 2:8-9)(Titus 3:5).
- Lord’s Supper is a symbolic remembrance of the broken body & shed blood of Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 11:24-25).
- His body is symbolized by unleavened bread and His blood is symbolized by the unfermented fruit of the vine.
- The fervent preaching of the Word of God (2 Tim. 4:1-5);
- The right administration of the two Sacraments that Jesus has given (Matt. 28:18-19; 1 Cor. 11:17-34); and
- The practice of Church discipline (Matt 18:15-20; Gal 6:1-2).
